Fiesole – Walking Tour

Founded by the Etruscans it was very important in the Renaissance for the nearby quarries of "pietra serena" stone. The stone was used in many parts of important buildings in Florence like the Uffizi Gallery.

Fiesole is located on the hilltop and offers a scenic view of Florence. Michelangelo was supposed to have developed his love of stone while being wet-nursed in nearby Settignano. So the path leads us to the ancient quarries and through traditional olive-growing farmland. Nearby Florence, it is a great day trip from Florence!
